How to Turn a Photo into a Video with AI
Upload one photo, describe the motion, and get a 5- or 10-second AI video. Steps, prompt tips, prices and what to do when a video fails.
You need one photo and one sentence. The Video generator uses the photo as the first frame and the sentence as the motion: a camera push-in, wind in the hair, a person who turns and smiles. The video is ready in 1 to 5 minutes, and you can play or download it on the same page.
How it works
- Open Video generator in the dashboard.
- Upload a start image: a JPEG, PNG or WebP up to 4 MB. The video starts from this image.
- Write the prompt: what moves, and how. Or select an example under the prompt box.
- Select the length: 5 or 10 seconds.
- Select the resolution: 720p or 1080p.
- Select Generate. The button shows the price in credits before you spend anything.
- Wait on the page or leave it. The video appears in Your videos when it is ready. If generation fails, the credits come back.
No photo yet? Make one in the Image generator first, download it, and upload it as the start image.
Write a prompt that moves
The photo already sets the scene, so the prompt only has to say what changes. Short and specific works best.
- Name one main motion. "The person turns toward the camera and smiles" is better than a list of five actions.
- Say what the camera does. "The camera slowly pushes in", "the camera orbits slowly around the subject" or "static camera".
- Say what stays still. "A light wind moves the hair and leaves. The subject stays still" keeps the face steady.
- Describe motion, not the picture. You don't need to repeat the colors or the clothes; the model sees them.
- Keep it possible in 5 seconds. A long story won't fit. Pick the 10-second length for slower or larger moves.
The examples under the prompt box are a good start: Push in, Wind, Turn and smile, Time-lapse and Orbit. Select one, then change the words to fit your photo.
Choose a photo that works
- Use a clear, sharp image. Blur and heavy compression get worse when they move.
- Leave room for the motion. A face cut off at the edge has nowhere to turn.
- Check the size. Each side must be between 240 and 8,000 pixels, and the long side can be at most 8 times the short side. The page checks this before you spend credits.
- Use photos you may use. Only animate people who agreed to it.
Photos and prompts go through content moderation. If a start image or prompt is blocked, you keep your credits.
What it costs
Videos cost credits per second, and the price depends on the resolution:
| Resolution | Per second | 5 seconds | 10 seconds | | ---------- | ---------- | --------- | ---------- | | 720p | 5 credits | 25 | 50 | | 1080p | 8 credits | 40 | 80 |
A failed video is refunded. See Pricing for credit packs and plans.
Questions
How long does it take? Usually 1 to 5 minutes. You can leave the page; the video waits in All videos.
Can I make a video from text only? No. The Video generator needs a start image. Make one with the Image generator first.
What happens to my photo? The start image is deleted a day after upload. The video stays in your library.
Can I make two people rap? Yes, with the Rap duo. It takes two photos and two names instead of a prompt.
